Snappy Answers To Stupid Questions
Today's Co-worker Lunchtime Debate Exercise -
No Weapons of Mass Distruction:
- In the wrong hands, a boxcutter is a WMD. You can spend a millenium chasing weapons or you can end the culture of death that makes something as simple as a boxcutter into weapon that killed thousands of civilians. You can decide for yourself which is going to be more effective.
Iraq was a sovereign country, we had no right to invade:
- It was a combination insane asylum and concentration camp. We had a duty to invade.
I dont want to be at war:
- Then you must be ready to surrender. Its ok with you if I'm not, right?
Bush is stupid:
- Funny how he keeps winning...
Cheney - Halliburton:
- I like Halliburton. They make good products, they hire lots of Americans, their closest competitor is French. I'm in favor of favoritism of an American Halliburton over a French Schlumberger. I also like corporations in general as they help me pay my mortgage.
The rest of the world doesnt like us anymore:
- Oh I know!, thats why everyone, everywhere is trying to come here.
I Just think Bush "rushed us into war":
- Youre right, he should have waited till there were more civilian corpses on the streets of New York.
The tax cuts are unfair:
- Then give yours back!
Iraq is just like Vietnam:
Yeah, I remember when our troops invaded North Vietnam and captured Ho Chi Mihn and put him on trial for war crimes, and then turned sovereignty over the the Vietnamese in less than a year. Youre right, the parallels are striking.
Didnt you see Farenheit 9/11?:
Yes I did, and now I can say I know what it feels like to be the only black man at a klan meeting.
Theres going to be a draft, you just wait and see:
- When did the draft become a death sentence?
Kerry is a really smart man:
- If Someone asked me about my wife and I then started talking about my mother, I dont think anyone would say I was smart.

"The tax cuts are unfair:
- Then give yours back!"
I've been asking what stops Kerry from writing a big fat check to the Treasury if he thinks he doesn't pay enough.
Those shelters and deductions aren't mandatory, you know.
Anyway, nice post, Frank.

I remember, how it's seared in my memory, so seared it hurt's my ass. I took Dick Cheney into Cambodia(or what ever you call that "thing/problem") (I wasn't there so that's the spelling thing of NO CHILD goes overfunded.). Anyway, Dick and I took over 500 rounds of beer bottles of the worse kind. It rocked the boat! BIG TIME! Anyway I saved his daughter and got 10 Purple Hearts.

Amen, bro. I sometimes frequent message boards on non-political topics... and every so often someone says, "So who are you voting for?" Then come the 50-1 followup posts with, "The economy's a mess! No WMDs! The UN didn't like it when we did anything! Al Qaeda wasn't in Iraq before we were so foolish as to invade!" Etc.
I bite my tongue, grit my teeth, and settle for pointing out how fargin' useless it is to adore the UN of all institutions ("Libya to chair the HR Commission!"), since I really don't want to turn these people into enemies, and if they believe the crap they're spewing, we'll never see eye to eye on politics.

It was tough to sit in the audience and watch that film, not because the movie was offensive ( it was) or that it was innaccurate ( it was ). That sort of thing happens all the time.
It was the audience. Theres a big section of the movie that follows a woman who has a son in Iraq, later in the movie, its revealed that he is killed. The audience I was with clapped at the news and yelled out 'He deserved it! you stupid B**tch...". Now, this is a riveting scene in the movie, this womans guts are torn out and Good old mikey is there with the camera to capture all of it. No kindness from the audience, only sheer hatred.
That sort of thing went on throughout the film. I remember reading William L. Shirers "Berlin Diaries" about what life was like in Germany prior to the US entering the war, and one of the chapters talks about how he was watching a newsreel in Berlin showing the Germans attacking Russia. The audience acted much the same way as the F9/11 audeince did.
When I was watching F/911, I felt like Bill was right there with me. I'll tell you, that was one rough night.
