Why We Fight: #305 in the Series

Because Christoper Hitchens is exactly correct.
"We know very well what the "grievances" of the jihadists are:
The grievance of seeing unveiled women.
The grievance of the existence, not of the State of Israel, but of the Jewish people.
The grievance of the heresy of democracy, which impedes the imposition of sharia law.
The grievance of a work of fiction written by an Indian living in London.
The grievance of the existence of black African Christian farmers, who won't abandon lands in Darfur.
The grievance of the existence of homosexuals.
The grievance of music, and of most representational art.
The grievance of the existence of Hinduism.
The grievance of East Timor's liberation from Indonesian rule.
All of these have been proclaimed as a licence to kill infidels or apostates, or anyone who just gets in the way."
Try and remember this list when some hammerhead tries to tell you "its all about the oil..."

"The grievance of the existence of black African Muslim farmers, who won't abandon lands in Darfur."
Don't you mean black Christian farmers?

Man!, at first I thought " how do I blow that?" and then I realzied I just cut and pasted the whole thing.
So, sure enough I checked the original text and its says "muslim". I have to assume its an error, and Ive corrected it in my " why we fight" series.
Thanks for pointing that out CB...

Some of the farmers in Darfur hold to their traditional Animist beliefs. There was a time when Christianity would have sought to convert them "by the sword" but that time is now long past. The most rabid member of the Religious Right I knew viewed their fate to be equally deplorable with the fate of Darfur Christians.

The Darfur genocide is falling on all blacks alike, Christian, animist and, yes, Muslim. The Arab Muslims (in general) have always considered blacks--Muslim or not--as beneath human consideration, and, unlike white Christians, see no reason to change this view or alter their actions accordingly.

Good point. I will revert to mr. hitchens original words, as I think he knew what he was saying when he said it, despite how incongruous it looks.
The fact is, they dont like anyone, including themselves.

My understanding is that the Fur people are mostly Muslim. They have the misfortune of being black and in the path of Arabs who have a nasty dose of racial-supremacy sickness. I think Hitchens mentions they're Muslim to point out the "they even kill their own" aspect of the thing.
The Sudanese Christians who are (or were until recently) being killed by Sudanese Muslims are in the south of Sudan, not in Darfur. It's easy to lose track of which victims are where without a scorecard, though.
