And not a moment too soon....
After 60 years, Germany finally finds the courage to hunt down and prosecute what they term as "war criminals".
Just to keep everyone on the page here, this has nothing to do with Rumsfeld. They will not stop at Rumsfeld, they will go after any and all US Armed Service members. The mission here is to put a stop to the effectiveness of the US Military.
It wont stop with Germany, and it wont stop at Rumsfeld.
I'll say more about this later, but I've got some shredding to do first.

The story I read on this, after a couple of re-reads, actually just says that some individuals were requesting/demanding that the German Govt go after Rummy and friends. If this is the case I expect nothing from this but breathless headlines from the media.

Frank,
Germans prosecuting Americans for war crimes, now that's irony! But wait, it gets even better!
In addition to the German court possibly going after Rumsfeld et al, the new chairman of the Government Reform Committee, Henry Waxman,D.(Al Queda), has said that we should look into such pressing issues as...
who leaked Valerie Plame's identity,
the Abu Grahib prisoner scandal
and the alleged mis-use of pre-war intelligence!
Then ofcourse let's not forget to throw John Bolton out with that filthy republican bathwater. Why stop with Rumsfeld's head?
Man, I'm so glad to see that the democrat's have decided to cooperate with this administration. Bi-partisanship, you betcha! In that spirit I look forward to seeing more such stellar statesmanship from the democrats. For instance, they could repeal the Patriot Act and the tax cuts and FISA and so much more.
I'm here to tell ya, happy days ARE here again. You bought that burka for your wife yet?

I guess it's old news by now, but I'm gonna try to set the record straight anyway. Full disclosure: I'm German.
So no, it wasn't "Germany" in the form of any of its official organs at the municipal, state or federal level that has been going for an indictment of Rumsfeld.
Rather, a group of expatriate Iraqis in Germany tried to file a lawsuit against the esteemed ex-SoD, and the German judicial system flatly rejected their request. They won't open an inquiry, much less convene a court.
The lawyers who advised the Iraqis must have known that this is how it would all end, and end in no time. Therefore it must essentially have been designed as a media stunt from the outset.
Now please, don't grant them a**holes the successs of (further) poisoning American-German relations by spreading -- and later not correcting -- a skewed, nay false version of what really happened.
Granted, German solidarity with the US in the War Against Islamofascism could often be more emphatic. However, one could almost say the same thing about US solidarity with the US, particularly against the backdrop of the recent elections.
A lesson to be learned from this: Ignore the headline -- go for the small print.

Agreed. I overreacted.
It comes from years of watching Gorbachev, various arab dictators, pol pot and every other tin horn leftist dictator get a free ride, while Americans are persecuted at every turn and opportunity for the most picayune of reasons.
