DC10 Airtankers in action

Click here for video from KNBC on the DC10 airtanker at work in Lake Arrowhead.

This is a drop of 16,000 gallons of "foscheck" which is a fire retardant material. The DC 10 airtanker is just one of the air assets that are being used to fight this massive fire.

Below is what it probably looked like from the ground.

Frank, here at the beach, where the chance of shrub fires are nil, there is an thick erie fog of extreamly thick smoke covering the whole of soy cal.

worst i have ever seen in my 52 years of living. it's too thick to even surf. and the conditions are ideal. just breathing is a problem.

we're staying inside until the weather breaks, and it's 90 degress on the coast!

how are things your way?

Phoschek is a competitor of the company I work for.
Actually, there is a mine fire somewhere in Virginia that is buying as much of the product we sell for fighting wood fires, and we'd be rather herd pressed to provide for both fires. The mine is eating 25,000 gallons of foam concentrate a week and is mixed at .1-1% or so. A little bit goes a long way.
