Sarah Palin - General Aviation Friendly

Sarah Palin's husband has a pilots license and they own their own plane and are members of AOPA. The McCain/Palin ticket is the single most aviation capable combination in the history of politics. Photo is from Huffington Post where one of the commentariat was exited to find that Todd Palins FAA entry didnt include a license for Seaplanes. Seconds later, they discovered that seaplane ratings fall under logbook rather than certification ratings.
Just wait till they discover that General Aviation aircraft use lead in their fuel, oh the horror...!
There is a rumor going around that she is a pilot herself, but I'm not able to confirm this as fact. If I were Charlie Gibson, I would love to hear that question answered.

A seaplane rating is definitely *not* a logbook endorsement. It is a separate rating that shows in FAA records. I know because I have a seaplane rating. You can look up Todd's ratings yourself at:
http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/interactive_airmen_inquiry/
and see that he only has a single engine land rating. Of course there is usually about a 2 to 3 month delay before a rating would appear in the database, but even if he did get his rating in the last three months I have to wonder what he has been doing with his seaplane all this time. Has he really been flying with an instructor since he bought the plane? For someone who already flys land planes, a seaplane rating is a pretty easy add-on. For me it was about 7 hours of training and I finished it in a weekend. Why hasn't he bothered to take this simple step?
As for McCain/Palin being good for GA, don't count on it. While Palin might sympathize with GA, McCain has a very anti-GA history. He has consistently called for GA user fees and has in the past sought to exclude GA friendly organizations such as AOPA from even taking part FAA funding discussions as part of the FAA Management Advisory Council. McCain called AOPA president Phil Boyer "unqualified" to be on the council because Boyer opposes the user fees that McCain is trying to impose.

And Obama and Biden, neither of which knows an empennage from aileron are going to do what to GA?
One thing is clear, McCain And Palin both fly and neither is a lawyer.

Statements from both candidates about GA are at the AOPA web site:
http://www.aopa.org/feature/election08/index.html
Based on both statements neither commits yes or no to user fees, but my take on their statements is McCain seems to spout more of the airline industry talking points about traffic and airspace whereas Obama does talk often about the good work the AOPA is doing, so I would believe you'll get more from Obama for supporting GA whereas McCain seems to be supporting the airline industry more (and they are the ones really pushing user fees).
